People often ask me: have you shot there before? I know that it can be reassuring for a couple to know that their photographer has already mastered the location where they are going to say their I-do’s. On the other side, it is also very exciting for me to shoot in a completely new area, as it offers endless opportunities to work my magic.
When Catherine and Michael told me about La Citadelle de Québec, I was intrigued. I had already photographed weddings in Quebec City, but never at this location. The last time I had set foot in La Citadelle was during a grade nine field trip! Catherine informed me that her dad was involved with the army for a very long time, and that this location held a special place in his heart. I looked up the venue on Google, and I loved the images that pulled up. The chapel was intimate, yet it was nested in a gigantic area of greenery and military buildings.
Come the day of the wedding, it was raining. Once the ceremony ended, we decided to wait a bit in hopes of the rain clearing out. Sadly, the weather did not cooperate, but the good news is that Catherine and Michael had their spirits high, as their wedding party, and we managed to do their portraits outside (underneath a tiny roof). I knew we didn’t need a sunny day to capture beautiful images of this couple. We managed just fine with our little outdoors set up, and also thanks to their stunning venue – Le Château Frontenac. My jaw dropped to the ground when I saw the soft light hitting the dramatic staircase. Catherine looked like a goddess, and tourists stopped by to grab cellphone photos of what they believed was an ad campaign!
Their party was so intense that I had difficulty culling down the images! Every single guest danced their little souls out, and MC and I had such a great time. Even though it rained, it did not stop us from having a fun, memorable day in the company of Catherine, Michael, and all their friends and family.
